Behind the Prints: How 3D Printing Shapes Your Vessela Planter

Behind the Prints: How 3D Printing Shapes Your Vessela Planter

At Vessela Home, every planter is created using advanced 3D printing technology—a process that turns digital designs into real, physical products using sustainable materials and solar power. But what actually goes into printing your planter? Let's break it down.

🌿 What is 3D Printing?

3D printing is a manufacturing process that builds objects layer by layer from a digital design. Imagine drawing your planter in thin slices and stacking those slices one on top of the other—this is essentially what happens, but with molten bioplastic instead of ink or paper.

At Vessela Home, we use PLA bioplastic, made from plants like corn and sugarcane, to create durable, lightweight, eco-friendly planters.

🔍 What Are Supports in 3D Printing?

In some 3D prints, supports are extra structures added to hold up parts of a design while it's printing—almost like scaffolding. These supports are later removed, but they create extra waste and can leave rough marks behind.

Why does this matter for your planter?

We specifically design all Vessela planters to print without supports, which means: ✔️ Less waste (almost zero!)
✔️ Smoother finishes
✔️ More efficient printing
✔️ Lower environmental impact

By designing smarter, we reduce material usage and eliminate the need for those extra support structures entirely.

🔄 What’s the Seam on the Back of My Planter?

One unique feature of 3D printing is the seam—a thin, vertical line where the printer starts and ends each layer of the print. Think of it like the back of a hand-sewn garment where the stitching finishes up.

On your Vessela planter, you'll usually find the seam carefully positioned on the back side of the pot, away from the front-facing design. While it's a normal and unavoidable part of 3D printing, we work to make it as subtle and clean as possible.

This is part of the charm of 3D-printed products—each one has slight variations and small details that show the process behind the product. It’s what makes your planter unique!

🛠️ What Happens After Printing?

Once a planter finishes printing: ✔️ We carefully remove it from the printer.
✔️ The surface is hand-finished to smooth out any imperfections.
✔️ We inspect every planter to make sure it meets our quality standards.
✔️ It’s packaged up and shipped directly to you from our Wollongong workshop.

🌍 Why Does This Matter?

We believe in full transparency. When you shop with Vessela Home, you're not getting a mass-produced item from a factory. You're getting a locally designed, solar-powered, low-waste product, made with care—and a bit of visible evidence of the innovative process that made it.

So next time you spot that little seam, remember: it’s proof your planter was printed just for you.
